Gateway West, London / Gort Scott, 2020-2022
A new £12m low-tech, low-energy BREEAM-Outstanding workspace building, comprising 3500m2, delivered as part of an emerging tech hub in the heart of White City, London.
As Project Architect I led an interdisciplinary design team to drive the scheme from concept through to handover (RIBA 2-6 ≈ LPH3 - LPH9) over an accelerated two year period. Modest in scale, but assertive in character, the building’s angular form and monolithic appearance command a bold presence. Façades are sculpted in brick, precast concrete and ceramic, with a subtle but palpable visual and tactile character.
Gateway West includes four floors of workspace and a substantial vehicular delivery bay at the ground floor, shared with its larger neighbour adjacent, Gateway Central. Both projects were procured in tandem under a Construction Management contract and delivered in sync against a fast-track project programme, necessitating a high degree of administrative and technical collaboration between architects, design team, client and contractors. The two projects are physically connected via a series of goods and vehicular lifts, benefitting from economies of scale and sharing facilities for servicing, plant and parking as well as a communal garden.
