Heterogeneous Edifice, Paris / The Cass, London Metropolitan University, 2014
A postgraduate design project exploring the urban reintegration of an awkward flat-iron site in Paris. A mixed-use building is proposed, including places to gather - the forum; places to work - the atelier; and places to live - the apartment.
The project investigates the language of a European, urban scale, figurative architecture, indulging in the communality of terraces and courtyards. The facade adopts a shared civic language, professing an ambiguity of expression, faithful to long-established ideas of rhythm, ordering and proportion. Beyond more conceptual intentions, the project tests the idea of composite timber construction in the city.
